Why this trip feels special to us

Because Meghalaya opens up best when explored together. It hits fast; through misty trails, hidden villages, roaring waterfalls, dense forests, and living traditions that still shape everyday life. We’ve designed this journey to let adventure unfold boldly, with space for effort, adrenaline, shared silences, local stories, and moments earned on the trail that can’t be rushed.

It’s not about ticking spots, but about being present in each experience. That’s the kind of travel we believe in, unhurried, shared, and deeply human.

See you on the journey!

With Love,
Shreyasi Chakraborty
Founder, Bhomoro

FAQs

Where does the journey start and end? What time should I plan for?

The trip begins in Guwahati on Day 1 and ends in Guwahati on Day 6. We start in the morning, as the drive into Meghalaya is most comfortable earlier in the day.

Pick-ups are scheduled from:

  • Guwahati Railway Station: 7:00 AM (depart by 7:15 AM)
  • Jalukbari Junction: 7:45 AM (depart by 7:55 AM)
  • Guwahati Airport: 8:20 AM (depart by 8:30 AM)
  • Khanapara: 9:30 AM (depart by 9.45 AM)

These timings account for multiple pick-ups and are subject to road and traffic conditions. If there are fewer pick-ups on your date, the exact pick up timing will be shared with you.

We recommend arriving in Guwahati a day earlier so you can start the journey comfortably.

For your return, you can book flights after 8 PM on Day 6.

Your Trip Leader will be coordinating with you throughout, ensuring a smooth pick up and drop off.

Where will I be picked up from on Day 1?

Pick-ups happen from Guwahati Railway Station, Airport, Jalukbari Junction, and Khanapara Junction. These points are on the way out of the city towards Meghalaya, and the vehicle will not stop or enter Guwahati city beyond these points. If you arrive a day earlier, you can choose a stay close to any of these points for convenience.

What kind of accommodation will we be staying in?

We stay in handpicked homestays, hotels, resorts, river stays, or farm stays that are clean, comfortable, and thoughtfully run. It’s a simple and immersive way to experience Meghalaya, closely connected to the place and its people.

How does room sharing be on this trip?

Rooms are shared on a double or triple sharing basis. If you’re travelling solo, you’ll be paired with traveler(s) of the same gender, based on the type of occupancy you choose while booking the trip.

Please note that the final allocation is handled by the Trip Leader to make sure everything runs smoothly.

What kind of food should I expect? Will vegetarian food be available?

Meals are simple, fresh, and home-style, reflecting the flavors of the Khasi Hills. You’ll eat at stays as well as explore local cafés and small roadside spots.

You can expect:

  • Breakfasts like poori–sabzi, roti-sabzi, toast, eggs, or similar
  • Lunches at local eateries along the way
  • Dinners with rice, dal, vegetables, and meat preparations

There’s also a special experience of a traditional Khasi-style meal for a taste of local cuisine in Sohra, Meghalaya. Vegetarian options are available throughout the trip.

On days with longer treks, lunch will either be at small eateries along the trail or carried along, especially when we’re heading into more remote areas. When visiting remote villages or places with limited food options, meal timings may shift slightly depending on the day.

How much extra money should I carry during the trip?

Most major expenses are covered. Around ₹500–₹1,000 per day is usually enough for snacks, lunch, café stops, or small personal purchases.

UPI works in most places, but network issues might hinder digital payments, so carrying some cash is helpful.

Will I have mobile network and internet access during the trip?

Network is available in most towns, with Airtel and Jio working best in Meghalaya. However, in remote villages, forest areas, or during hikes, connectivity can be weak or unavailable.

Some stays offer Wi-Fi, but speeds may be limited. We’ll keep you informed about low-network days so you can update family or work in advance.

What kind of weather should I be prepared for?

This trip is designed for the monsoon when Meghalaya is at its most alive.

Expect lush greenery, flowing waterfalls, and misty landscapes. The weather can change quickly; you might see sunshine, rain, fog, and clear skies all in a single day.

Light to moderate rainfall is a regular part of the experience and usually doesn’t disrupt plans. In case of heavy rain or safety concerns, the Trip Leader may adjust the plan on-ground.

The focus is always on keeping the experience safe while still making it meaningful.

Should I book my flights before confirming the trip?

It’s best to confirm your slot with us first. Since batches are limited, booking flights in advance doesn’t guarantee availability.

What should I pack for this trip?

A comfortable rucksack bag of 60L capacity works best, along with a small daypack for daily activities and hikes.

Carry a valid ID (Aadhaar Card), warm layers, quick-dry clothes, good walking shoes with grip, flip flops, basic toiletries, and personal medication. Also don’t forget to carry two reusable water bottles.

Rainwear is essential for this trip.

Please refer to the ‘Bring Along’ section for details on things to pack for this trip.

How physically demanding is this trip?

This trip involves regular walking and a few longer hiking days.

You’ll be walking on forest trails, steps to waterfalls, and root bridge paths. Some hikes are short (30 to 45 minutes), while a couple of days can involve longer walks of up to 7 to 9 hours.

The terrain isn’t technical, but it can be slippery during the monsoon. You don’t need prior trekking experience, but you should be comfortable being active, getting wet, and walking for a few hours at a stretch.

If you have knee concerns or are not comfortable with long walking days, this trip may feel challenging. Otherwise, if you enjoy nature and don’t mind the rain, you’ll definitely love it.

Will there be a guide during the activities?

Yes. You’ll be accompanied by a Bhomoro Trip Leader throughout the journey, and local guides will join in for specific experiences like village explorations and hikes. This helps you understand the place beyond just seeing it.

What are the road conditions like?

Meghalaya has some of the best-maintained hill roads in the country. The drives are scenic, with relatively gentle curves compared to many mountain regions.

Most travel days involve drives of about 3 to 5 hours. Along the way, you’ll pass through deep gorges, waterfalls, forested roads, and wide, open landscapes that make the journey just as beautiful as the destinations.

We start early each day and try to stay on schedule to ensure smooth travel.

Will we find food easily on the road during the drives?

For most of the journey, you’ll find restaurants, local eateries, or dhabas on the road. On days with longer or more remote drives and hikes, options may be fewer and meal timings may shift slightly. On such days, it’s a good idea to carry some snacks or a packed meal for convenience.

Your Trip Leader will be coordinating with you throughout, making sure meals are planned smoothly, even in more remote stretches of the journey.

Can I extend this trip and explore more?

This is a fixed departure trip and the number of days are fixed. However, if you want to experience more of Meghalaya as per your convenience, we suggest that you opt for a private trip.

Also if you want to join this group trip as well as extend your trip in the Northeast, you can opt to join our next immediate group trip. Monsoon in Arunachal Pradesh is especially beautiful.

We are happy to help you plan an extension that fits your time and interests, simply let us know.
