Why this trip feels special to us

Because Arunachal opens up best when experienced together. It unfolds slowly. Through quiet mountain towns, long winding roads, ancient monasteries, and living cultures that are still part of everyday life. We’ve designed this journey to let the days move naturally, with space for conversations, shared silences, local stories, and cultural moments that can’t be rushed.

It’s not about covering places quickly, but about being present in each one. That’s the kind of travel we believe in, unhurried, shared, and deeply human.

See you on the journey!

With Love,
Shreyasi Chakraborty
Founder, Bhomoro

FAQs

Where does the journey start and end? What time should I plan for?

The trip begins in Guwahati on Day 1 and ends in Guwahati on Day 7. We start early in the morning, as the journey into Arunachal is long and scenic, right from the first day.

Pick-ups are scheduled as follows:

  • Guwahati Railway Station: 7:00 AM (depart by 7:15 AM)
  • Jalukbari Junction: 7:45 AM (depart by 7:55 AM)
  • Guwahati Airport: 8:15 AM (depart by 8:25 AM)

These timings account for multiple pick-ups and are subject to road and traffic conditions. If there are fewer pick-ups on your date, the exact pick up timing will be shared with you.

We recommend arriving in Guwahati a day earlier so you can start the journey comfortably.

For your return, we recommend booking flights after 10 PM on Day 7, or planning an overnight stay in Guwahati and flying out the next morning.

Your Trip Leader will be coordinating with you throughout, ensuring a smooth pick up and drop off.

Where will we be picked up from on Day 1?

Pick-ups happen from Guwahati Railway Station, Guwahati Airport, and Jalukbari Junction. These are on the route out of the city, and the vehicle will not stop or enter Guwahati city beyond these points. If you arrive a day earlier, you can choose a stay close to any of these points for convenience.

What kind of accommodation will we be staying in?

We stay in handpicked homestays, hotels, resorts, river stays, or farm stays that are clean, comfortable, and thoughtfully run. These aren’t luxury hotels, but places that feel warm, often hosted by local families. It’s a big part of experiencing Arunachal more closely-through its people, spaces, and everyday rhythms.

How does room sharing be on this trip?

Rooms are shared on a double or triple sharing basis. If you’re travelling solo, you’ll be paired with traveler(s) of the same gender, based on the type of occupancy you choose while booking the trip.

Please note that the final allocation is handled by the Trip Leader to make sure everything runs smoothly.

What kind of food should I expect on this trip? Will I get vegetarian options?

Food during the trip is simple, fresh, and home-style. Most meals are prepared at the stays or eaten at local eateries along the way.

You can expect:

  • Breakfasts like poori–sabzi, roti-sabzi, toast, eggs, or similar
  • Lunches at local eateries along the way
  • Dinners with rice, dal, vegetables, and meat preparations

There’s also a special experience of a traditional Monpa meal during a village visit, which gives you a glimpse into the local Monpa food culture. Vegetarian options are available throughout the trip.

In more remote regions like Mago or Chumi Gyatse, meal timings may shift slightly depending on road and weather conditions, but we will ensure you’re well taken care of.

How much extra money should I carry during the trip?

Since most major expenses are already covered, you won’t need much. Around ₹500–₹1,000 per day is usually enough for snacks, lunch, café stops, or small personal purchases.

UPI works in most places, even in remote areas of Arunachal Pradesh, but network issues might hinder digital payments, so carrying some cash is helpful.

Will I have mobile network and internet access during the trip?

Network is available in most towns. BSNL, Airtel, and Jio work well in Arunachal. However, as we move into higher altitudes and more remote areas, the network can become weak or completely unavailable.

Most stays offer Wi-Fi, but speeds are usually limited. It’s a good idea to inform family or work in advance that you may be out of network for certain stretches; it’s part of being in the mountains.

What kind of weather should I be prepared for?

This journey runs from May to early November, covering spring, summer, and monsoon in the Eastern Himalayas. The weather changes as you gain altitude.

Places like Dirang and Shergaon remain pleasant, with cool mornings and comfortable days. As you move higher towards Sela Pass and Tawang, it gets noticeably colder, especially in the mornings and evenings.

From June to September, you can expect rain, mist, and incredibly lush landscapes. October and early November bring clearer skies after the monsoon, with fresh greenery still around.

Snowfall doesn’t occur during this time, but you may still come across old snow patches at higher passes depending on recent weather.

Can our trip encounter hindrance due to weather conditions?

In the mountains, weather can be unpredictable, especially during the monsoon months. Rain, fog, or minor landslides may occasionally slow things down or require route adjustments.

If that happens, our on-ground crew will handle and adapt the plan accordingly. The focus is always on keeping the journey safe, meaningful, and immersive, while making small changes if required, along the way.

Should I book my flights before confirming the trip?

It’s best to confirm your slot with us first. Since batches are limited, booking flights in advance doesn’t guarantee availability.

What should I pack for this trip?

A comfortable rucksack bag of 60L capacity works best, along with a small daypack for essentials. Carry a valid ID (Aadhaar Card), warm layers, good walking shoes with grip, flip flops, basic toiletries, and any personal medication you may need. Also don’t forget to carry two reusable water bottles.

Since this is a monsoon departure, carrying rainwear is essential.

Please refer to the ‘Bring Along’ section for details on things to pack for this trip.

How physically demanding is this trip?

This trip doesn’t involve difficult treks, but it does include some walking and long travel days. There’s a short village walk of about 2 hours, which is easy for most people with basic fitness.

On certain days, when we travel to high altitudes (13,000 ft or above), you may experience mild breathlessness or fatigue. It’s important to rest well, stay hydrated, and follow the Trip Leader’s guidance.

If you have existing heart, respiratory, or severe knee conditions, it’s best to consult your doctor before joining.

Will there be a guide with us during the trip?

Yes. You’ll be accompanied by a Bhomoro Trip Leader throughout the journey, and local guides will join in for specific experiences like village explorations. This helps you understand the place beyond just seeing it.

How are the roads in Western Arunachal Pradesh?

The roads in Western Arunachal Pradesh are smooth mountain roads with scenic drives. As we travel through valleys and high passes in the Eastern Himalayas, the driving speed decreases due to winding mountain roads, steep gradients, and changing terrain. This results in longer travel times on certain days. At higher altitudes, you may come across a few rough or under-maintenance stretches, sometimes affected by weather.

Despite this, the journey itself is deeply rewarding. You’ll pass through green valleys, high-altitude lakes, rivers, forested mountain roads, and expansive Himalayan vistas that make the drives incredibly scenic.

We start early each day and adhere to timelines to ensure smooth travel on all days.

Why isn’t Bumla Pass a part of this itinerary?

This journey focuses on experiencing Mago–Chuna–Gongkhar La, a remote and lesser-visited region that very few travelers reach.

It offers a more offbeat and immersive experience than Bumla Pass, with vast landscapes and a sense of stillness. The idea of Bhomoro is to go beyond the obvious and explore places that feel raw, quiet, and surreal.

Do I need any permits for this trip?

Yes, an Inner Line Permit (ILP) is required to enter Arunachal Pradesh. We’ll arrange it for you. You will just need to share a valid ID (Aadhar Card), a photograph, and a few details in advance.

Will we find food easily on the road during the drives?

For most of the journey, you’ll find local restaurants and dhabas on the road. On days with longer or remote drives, options may be fewer and meal timings may shift slightly.

Carrying some snacks is always a good idea, especially if you like having something on hand during long scenic drives.

Your Trip Leader will be coordinating with you throughout, making sure meals are planned smoothly, even in more remote stretches of the journey.

Can I extend this group trip and explore more?

This is a fixed departure trip and the number of days are fixed. However, if you want to experience more of Arunachal Pradesh as per your convenience, we suggest that you opt for a private trip.

Also if you want to join this group trip as well as extend your trip in the Northeast, you can opt to join our next immediate group trip. Monsoon in Meghalaya is especially beautiful.

We are happy to help you plan an extension that fits your time and interests, simply let us know.
